Greenville University is seeking a Director of Human Resources.  This position provides strategic leadership and hands-on contribution in areas such as benefits, job classification, salary administration, employment, training, records, and employee relations. The Director maintains a collaborative/advisory relationship with managers with regard to HR matters including employee recruitment and retention, compensation, performance management, and employee relations.


Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. General HR Leadership:
    • Develop and administer various human resources plans and procedures for all College personnel.
    • Assist in planning, organizing, and directing all activities of the department. Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
    • Develop, recommend, and implement personnel policies and procedures; prepare and maintain handbook on policies and procedures.
    • Oversee the maintenance of the College’s organizational charts and employee directory.
    • Provide staff employees with training and development.
    • Provide input and guidance to Chief Financial Officer on HR activities and direction. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  2. Legal Compliance and Reporting:
    • Establishes HR policies and implements procedures that ensure institution wide compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Communicates HR policies and procedures systematically and as needed.
    • Advises and supports Chief Financial Officer for the purpose of managing institutional HR related risk.
    • Establishes and maintains department records and reports.  Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings, such as seminars.
    • Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law, governing bodies, or other departments in the organization.
    • Oversees leave of absence approval and administration
  3. Compensation/Benefits
    • In  collaboration with Chief Financial Officer, develops, administers, and maintains a compensation system designed to ensure campus wages that are competitive in the marketplace, internally consistent and appropriate to the work performed. Advises academic leadership on faculty compensation matters. 
    • Implements and annually updates compensation program; rewrites job descriptions as necessary; conducts annual salary surveys and develops merit pool (salary budget); analyzes compensation and benchmarks positions
    • In collaboration with Chief Financial Officer, develops and oversees benefits administration including plan design, claims resolution, annual re-evaluation of policies for cost effectiveness, benefits information programs and open enrollments.
    • Track and project personnel variances in relation to the budget
  4. Employment, Employee Relations, Retention, and Training:
    • Guides and assists campus leadership in the development and maintenance of an attractive and productive campus work culture that facilitates the effective recruitment and retention of a quality workforce.
    • Develops and maintains effective recruiting processes and supports campus managers in the screening and selection of employees, as needed. 
    • Oversees new employee orientations and exit interviewing.
    • Serves as a member of Title IX team including investigations of sexual misconduct.
    • Counsels supervisors and employees on employee relations matters with the aim of mission accomplishment and achievement of organization objectives in the context of College values.
